Grand Rapids-based nonprofit The Diatribe is celebrating the grand opening of The Emory Arts & Culture Hub.
“This space will be providing our afterschool programming for our organization, summer programming, we’re also going to have four retail spaces available as well.”
Javier Cervantes is Executive Director of The Diatribe, an arts and culture nonprofit on the city’s southeast side. He says The Emory will be more than just a headquarters for the organization.
“We have eight beautiful, affordable apartments and we have an event venue that can host up to 300 people.”
The $9 million project took over three years of fund raising and construction, converting a vacant 22,000 square foot building into an arts and culture center. Cervantes envisions a community anchor for the neighborhood.
“Because this is not just a building, this is a movement, and we’re building so much more culture and art and I’m just so excited to be able to welcome everyone from all over the community.”
