Plymouth Flats is proposed for development on the nearly 2-acre site where the shuttered Grand Rapids Family Credit Union currently sits. The credit union closed in 2024.
“Forty-eight units; it’s a blighted building right now. We did meet with the neighborhood association, let them know what was going on, invited the fire department to that meeting as well, so we had that meeting back in December.”
Matt O’Connor is developer of the $10.5 million project, which would be built in the 1200 block of Plymouth Avenue Northeast, near the corner of Leonard Street and Plymouth Avenue.
“Forty-eight units will be constructed across three buildings. Those will be comprised of 24 one-bedroom and 24 two-bedroom units.”
Audrey Tappenden is an economic development coordinator for the city. She says 10 of the units will be reserved for households earning up to 90% of area median income.
“Construction on this project is estimated to start the summer of this year with the intention of delivering units in 2027.”
Monthly rent for the income-restricted units is estimated at just over $1,600 for one bedroom and just over $1,900 for two bedrooms.
City commissioners still need to approve the project.
