The hospital will offer financial aid to Grand Valley State University nursing students in exchange for a two-year work commitment after graduation

Students at Grand Valley State University’s Kirkhof College of Nursing can now receive up to $20,000 in tuition incentives, $5,000 per semester.

In exchange for the financial aid, graduates commit to working at Grand Rapids’ Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital for at least two years after passing their licensure exam.

Students will gain hands-on clinical experience in rehabilitation, including rotations in 120 specialized programs covering brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, stroke and pediatric nursing.

The partnership addresses a critical talent shortage, ensuring Mary Free Bed a steady flow of highly trained nurses while offering students access to Michigan’s top rated rehabilitation hospital.

More than 94% of Grand Valley’s nursing school graduates remain in Michigan to work.
