Attorney General Nessel says she plans to intervene in all major rate cases

The Michigan Public Service Commission approved a more than $240 million increase for DTE electric rates last Thursday.

Less than a week later, the utility announced it plans to ask for an additional increase in April.

The most recent approval was less than half of the amount DTE requested last year.

Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement it’s astonishing that the utility would announce another rate hike request less than a week after another was approved, while also projecting record profits.

Nessel says she plans to intervene in all major rate cases.

DTE Energy made $5.1 billion in profit last year, a $100 million increase over 2024.
