The Ottawa County Community Action Agency is recruiting Volunteer Home Energy Educators for a new program.
“Really what it will down to is somebody that is passionate about educating the community going out in the people's homes and talking with people and telling them how they can make their situation better and lower those energy costs.”
Program Director Jennifer Brozowski says volunteers will make 90-minute in-home appointments educating residents on energy usage and making personalized recommendations.
“It'd be amazing if they have some previous experience, whether it be with some type of energy education or even some basic like home builder experience, but it’s not necessary because there is training.”
The program runs through the Holland Energy Fund and partners with several city agencies and area nonprofits.
Participating residents will receive a kit with items worth up to $300 to lower energy costs in their homes.
“Anybody can benefit from the services, to be able to put some extra dollars in your pocket or keep those extra dollars in your pocket. Because of the training that these volunteers receive, they can really answer a lot of questions and be really helpful for these little things around the house that could help everybody.”
By training volunteers in energy education, the resources used for that now can be put into other programs and services.
