Twenty candidates applied for the Grand Rapids School Board trustee vacancy. Erika VanDyke was selected from four interviewed candidates. The vacancy was created when former Trustee Arick Davis resigned in January.
VanDyke’s resume includes FoodCorps, the Kent School Services Network, Grand Rapids Community Foundation, and the Urban Core Collective. Currently, she’s Program Manager & Community Liaison for the Steelcase Foundation.
VanDyke will serve through the end of 2026. The remaining two years of her term will be completed by a candidate selected by voters in the November 3, 2026, election.
In a statement, VanDyke said, “I look forward to serving GRPS scholars and families in this new role and working alongside my board colleagues to continue moving our district forward.”
VanDyke will be sworn in during the Board of Education Work Session on Monday, February 23rd.
