U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is planning to open a new administrative office in Southfield

The office will be located off Northwestern Highway, not far from the Southfield civic center.

The City of Southfield confirms that it’s aware of the lease, which is on private property, adding that it’s been told ICE enforcement officers will not be deployed from the location.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib represents Michigan’s 12th district, which includes Southfield.

She criticized the move, saying ICE has “no place in Michigan.”

Tlaib also criticized plans to turn a warehouse in Romulus into an ICE detention center, calling ICE an unaccountable and violent agency.
