Organizers of ArtPrize 2025 are celebrating it as a major success, solidifying Grand Rapids as a global destination for public art

Grand Rapids’ ArtPrize is an open, international art competition.

For two weeks in September, artists exhibit their works in public and private spaces. A jury of art experts - and public voters - decide winners for cash prizes.

In 2025, more than 1,100 artists from 39 states and 18 countries showcased their work across 155 venues.

Director of Communications and Marketing Mark Osgerby says there was a surge in digital engagement with 1 million website visits.

“People visiting the website, mapping out where they want to go and what they want to see. Engaging with our Facebook and Instagram and all the other fun ones to see the art and figure out their next moves in the ArtPrize districts.”

More big numbers: The event drew more than 900,000 visitors and distributed half a million dollars in grants and awards directly to artists.

Osgerby says ArtPrize balances high-level international participation with economic impact and local education.

“We were able to facilitate field trips for students. We brought in over 3,000 students to experience ArtPrize and all the exhibits and fun activities going on in ArtPrize 2025.”

ArtPrize 2026 is scheduled for September 17 – October 3.
