In 2022, Canadian officials said they would invest more than 250 million dollars at two factories in Ontario, enough to help keep 2,600 jobs.
But now General Motors is idling 500 workers at one of those plants, its second round of layoffs in Ontario in roughly six months.
GM notes it’s still put billions of dollars into its Canadian manufacturing operations over the last few years.
But Canada wants to recover money it invested in GM’s Ontario plants, though just how much it hopes to claw back remains unclear.
