The Grand Rapids Board of Education is seeking a new member after a trustee stepped down Friday

Arick Davis left his Grand Rapids Board of Education Trustee position effective Friday, January 23, according to a media release from the school district.

It did not provide a reason for the resignation.

It quotes Board President José Rodriguez stating “As a parent, business owner, community leader, and a product of our very own Grand Rapids Public Schools system, Arick brought a unique and necessary perspective to the Board of Education. His presence will be missed.”

Davis was elected to the board in 2024 after serving on several community boards.

He is a Grand Rapids native and co-founder of Last Mile Café coffee shop.

The Board is accepting applications from interested parties to fill the vacant position now through Wednesday February 4th.

Board members plan to name an appointee within 30 days to hold office until the end of 2026.

An elected replacement will fill the remaining two years of the term.

Details to apply are on the Grand Rapids Board of Education website.
