Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer says President Trump is taking a dangerous step by threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act to stop protests in Minnesota

Trump says he could use the 1807 law to send military troops to Minnesota.

A man there was recently wounded by a federal officer who allegedly had been attacked.

That comes a week after an ICE agent shot and killed a woman.

Now Gretchen Whitmer, Vice Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, is joining with the group’s chair in asking Trump to avoid a “chaotic and un-American federal takeover” of Minnesota.

The group says in a statement that Trump should bring people together, not attack states.

A president has not used the Insurrection Act since 1992, when George H.W. Bush invoked it to quell un-rest in Los Angeles after officials in the city requested help.
