Microsoft is the company interested in building a data center in Lowell Township.  The township has posted a letter of introduction on its website

Microsoft has formally introduced itself to Lowell Charter Township leaders and residents. In a public letter, it shares the company’s interest in developing a datacenter at the Covenant Business Park.

Developer Franklin Partners currently owns the property. It recently requested township rezoning for a data center without publicly revealing the interested party. Residents voiced concerns over a lack of transparency and potential data center impacts.

Microsoft’s letter states: “We asked the seller to pause the rezone process so that we could spend time with the community early this year and share more about our potential long-term plans before we proceed.”

Adding the project is in the "most preliminary stage" and because datacenter planning takes years, specific details regarding design and construction timelines are not yet available.

The letter acknowledges community concerns and expresses a desire for an open, transparent dialogue.

“When Microsoft joins a community, we make a pledge: to contribute to a sustainable future, advance prosperity and well-being, and operate responsibly as a good neighbor. We look forward to collaborating on a project that the Lowell community can be proud of.”

The next planning commission meeting is January 12th; the township board meeting is scheduled one week later on the 19th.
