Michigan Public Service Commissioner Katherine Peretick says the contract has plenty of safeguards.
“The termination payment outlined by the contract ensures that if the customer leaves early, ratepayers won’t be left on the hook for costs accrued to serve the customer.”
The Saline Township-based data center would draw more energy than an average nuclear reactor, a lot more power than what’s currently available.
Local resident Beth Foley says it was worth a deeper look.
“There is potential for egregious harm by fast tracking this with no downside in taking your time and ensuring you got it right.”
The project is backed by tech companies “Open AI” and “Oracle.”
