The city was listed in a Washington Post story as a potential site for a small processing facility

Leaders in Highland Park reportedly say they will try to stop any effort by the federal government to create a new Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in the city.

The effort comes following a Washington Post story listing areas across the country where ICE might develop detention centers.

Highland Park was a potential site for a small processing facility.

The Post reports the list was a draft and subject to change.

But Highland Park Mayor Glenda McDonald tells the Detroit Free Press city officials are gathering information about the potential for an ICE facility there and analyzing what could be done to block such a move.

It remains unclear whether the federal government is actively interested in creating a Highland Park detention center or was simply looking at the city as a possible site at one point.
