ICE officers have received scrutiny in recent months for wearing masks and not identifying themselves as law enforcement during raids

Michigan’s attorney general is co-writing a letter to Congress asking it to stop immigration enforcement from wearing masks in the field.

The letter references examples of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers wearing plain clothes, covering their faces, or traveling in unmarked cars while conducting arrests.

It also references examples of people committing crimes in other states while impersonating ICE agents.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says she worries it could happen in Michigan too if tactics don’t change.

“If we’re seeing it in this many states, I can name so many, South Carolina, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Florida, Minnesota, Delaware, Louisiana, I mean I could go on and on. If we’re seeing it in that many places, it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing it in Michigan.”"

The Trump Administration has been ramping up immigration enforcement in recent months.

We have reached out to ICE for a comment.
