Regional workforce development organization West Michigan Works will distribute the grants based on business size.
Kent County has the most grant recipients with 35 businesses, followed by Ottawa County with 26, Allegan County with 11, and Muskegon, Ionia and Montcalm counties with four each, along with 16 other awardees.
West Michigan Works says the funding will provide critical training resources across industries including agribusiness, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, hospitality and tech. The grants help train and retain nearly 3,000 workers, including almost 900 new hires, over 770 apprentices, and more than 1,300 incumbent workers.
Some of the businesses receiving grants include ABC Technologies in Wyoming, Haworth in Holland, and Herman Miller in Zeeland.
The Going PRO Talent Fund is administered by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. West Michigan Works helps businesses apply for the funds.
