Christmas is almost upon us and the Salvation Army in Kent County says they’re falling short of the 2025 Christmas Campaign goal of 1.45 million dollars. Earlier in the week they were only at 38-percent of the goal. However, the number of households needing holiday assistance has increased this year by more than 11-percent.Here’s Kent County Coordinator Major Tim Meyer.
“We’ve had such an increase in need. We saw early on this summer, a bump up and of course with the scare of the snap benefits, and other things that drove a lot of folks to us, but even without that, over the last few years we’ve seen up to a 300 percent increase in demand.”
There’s some good news.Donations made to the Christmas Campaign will be matched dollar for dollar up to 250-thousand dollars until December 31st and Meyer says this match comes at a critical time.He says every contribution regardless of size, makes an impact. He adds, quote, “Now thanks to a group of anonymous donors, the impact is amplified twofold.” End quote.
Officials say funds raised during the holiday season also help support their year long critical programs and services. If interested, donations can be made at SAkentcounty.org
