Cascade Township wants to update its zoning ordinance, citing outdated rules no longer reflecting the community’s current goals.
Proposed ordinance changes have been met with opposition by some who say the changes discourage the development of affordable housing, rental units, and promote exclusivity.
Other residents and board members say the new ordinance is necessary for aligning with the township’s current master plan and preserving the character of the community.
The proposed ordinance also limits density increases in areas where water and sewer infrastructure aren’t already available.
The four open house events will take place from 1-3 p.m. and 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17th and from 1-3 p.m. and 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 8th.
All events will happen at the Wisner Center at the Kent District Library’s Cascade Branch.
