State grant funds first-of-its-kind Trauma Recovery Center in Grand Rapids' Heartside District

Victims of violence in West Michigan have a new – free – recovery option: Corewell Health’s Trauma Recovery Center

“It’s first-of-its-kind in West Michigan. It’s second in the state.”

Subodh Jain is Vice President and Department Chief of Behavioral Health at Corewell. He says the health care provider was able to outfit an existing clinic in Grand Rapids’ Heartside district thanks to a $1.6 million state grant.

“It provides psychiatry, psychology and psychotherapy services, along with case management, social work, as well as any additional support that is needed for trauma victims.”

The 16-week program has been available for the past month, serving around a dozen patients free of charge. Early outcomes show 96% of patients saying treatment helped them feel better emotionally, with 43% reporting a decrease in depression symptoms.

“Hoping that initial 16 sessions can get them to where they need to be so that we can transition them into traditional mental health and physical care.”

Corewell Health’s first Trauma Recovery Center operates out of Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
