The Laketown Township Board of Trustees extended a moratorium on new applications for free-standing short-term rentals so they can examine regulations, licensing, zoning and enforcement.
The original hold began in May and was set to expire this week.
Laketown Township is in Allegan County along Lake Michigan between Holland and Saugatuck.
As a popular vacation area, the community has struggled to balance property owner rights with concerns about guest disruptions, housing availability and regulations.
The township estimates it has approximately 100 registered short-term rentals and possibly another 100 unregistered.
The moratorium only affects new applications for rental licenses for free-standing houses where the owner does not live on-site.
The planning commission will take up the issue at its December meeting.
The extended moratorium now runs until June 30, 2026.
