“We’ve been talking about maybe making a third run at a bond.”
Allendale School Superintendent Garth Cooper thinks voters might approve a bond issue for the right amount and for what they consider the right reasons.
“Hopefully the right proposal would have a chance.”
In August of 2024 and then by an even wider margin last May, voters rejected 88-million-dollar bond proposals.
“Clearly the significant defeat tells us something different is going to have to be presented.”
At a recent school board meeting superintendent Cooper said the administration is soliciting community input, and board member Brandon TenBrink wants faculty and staff suggestions.
“What are the needs of the district from their perspective. I don’t think that really had been done. No, it was. Sorry to interrupt but it was done multiple times before those first two proposals. We checked with the staff.”
And Superintendent Cooper says they shouldn’t present another bond request if the feedback indicates it will fail again.
“I don’t think we should go forward if we get the sense from the community that they don’t want to entertain anything.”
