It will focus on African wildlife, habitats, cultures and conservation challenges.
Vice President of Development Amy Stockero says the zoo is expanding its African region to include giraffes, ostriches and other animals.
“That grant is going to allow us to have educational signage that creates continuity between our current African area that helps individuals learn and engage with those habitats in a different way.”
The zoo was one of only 60 recipients selected from more than 460 applicants nationwide for the grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The expansion is scheduled to open in 2028.
