A dramatic video builds excitement for the crowds that gathered at Calder Plaza Saturday as West Michigan Soccer officially unveiled the name and brand identity of the new Major League Soccer NEXT Pro team as Athletic Club Grand Rapids.
Team Co-owner David Van Andel.
“When we set out to bring professional soccer here, we knew we were building more than a roster. We knew we were bringing an identity, a team that represents the energy, the creativity and ultimately the resilience of West Michigan.”
The blue, gold and black crest features a navy stripe down the center representing the Grand River while the type and banner style are inspired by the city’s 19th century lumber heritage.

Ali Curtis, Senior Vice President of MLS NEXT Pro, highlighted the importance of the league’s expansion into Grand Rapids.
“There’s no better time. The World Cup is coming here to the United States next summer and Grand Rapids will be part of that energy, and it will be leading the way.”
AC Grand Rapids will play its first season in 2027 at the Amway Stadium now under construction on the city’s west side.
