The project will also extend Breton Avenue

“Area-wide and in Kentwood, there’s a growing demand for housing, and this will help alleviate that.”

Lisa Golder is Kentwood’s Community Director. She says the $30 million project will redevelop just over 66 acres in the 2000 block of 52nd Street Southeast and the 5000 block of Wing Avenue Southeast.

“Sixty-nine of the units are anticipated to be rental units and then the rest would be owned units.”

Ten of the single-family townhomes will be rent-controlled, reserved as income-restricted for households at or below 120% of area median income for 10 years.

The project will also extend Breton Avenue, easing traffic congestion on Wing Avenue.

“Breton has long been planned to be extended from 52nd to 60th Street and it’s about halfway there. It’s been extended from 60th Street to the north.”

The Kentwood City Commission approved Brownfield tax increment financing to offset costs for developer Allen Edwin Homes. Once the project receives state approval, construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 with a completion date of 2043.
