Kentwood Planning board approves plan for development with 200+ homes

City of Kentwood

The Kentwood Planning Commission this week recommended the city approve a rezoning plan to allow more than 200 new homes to be built

Portage-based developer Allen Edwin Homes plans to build 256 units on 66 acres off 52nd Street and Wing Avenue in Kentwood, pending approval from the City Commission.

The Planning Commission recommends approval to rezone the site as High-Density to allow for the greater number of homes – a mix of condominiums and townhouses, with 69 units slated as rentals.

The development would include amenities such as a dog park, playground, pavilions, and walking paths.

Some planning commissioners raised concerns about the project not including enough affordable housing, while others want clarification on lot size and spacing.

The project will also require state approval due to nearby wetlands.

The Kentwood City Commission is expected to vote on the rezoning at its October 15th meeting.
