From controlling robot dogs to roaming virtual worlds, 2,500 West Michigan students explored the Bank of America Tech Showcase at Grandville Robotics and Engineering Center Tuesday.
“We know, at this age, kids start making decisions on what they want to study, what sort of careers they want to pursue.”
Andria Romkema, Senior Vice President of Business Development at the Right Place, created the event.
“We want to expose them, to get them hands on experience with local tech companies in the region.”
More than 30 employers and colleges shared information about tech-related careers. Sponsor Bank of America’s exhibit used virtual reality, connecting advanced technology with financial education.
Vice president Brandon Spangler points to students examining scenarios on several huge monitors called “Padzillas.”
“It shows a mobile and online banking situation they can use and interact with to see the technology side of banking.”
Romkema notes the students can see the innovation, entrepreneurship and technology happening in the region across all industries from manufacturing to healthcare.
“We’re happy to play a role in inspiriting them to pursue tech careers.”
