Officials also have their eyes on a handful of other properties

“The department continues to pursue the remaining properties within the Millennium Park footprint.”

Kent County administrator Al VanDenBergh says the property at 1184 Maynard Avenue is a connector to other areas of the park.

“Parcel is approximately 8.5 acre homesite and provides a key connection between existing park properties on the Maynard corridor.”

After the house is demolished, Vandenberg says the property will remain a natural area.
“The negotiated price is 550 thousand.”

The county has an interest in a dozen or so other parcels around the park. Parks director Ben Swayze says that includes a pair of commercial properties.

“We have had multiple conversations with both of those property owners so, yea, we continue to keep an eye on that they are very important parcels for us.”
