59-year-old Darick Anderson has been charged with open murder for the stabbing death of 28-year-old Talfrieda Covington. Covington, who had two small children and was six weeks pregnant, was stabbed more than 20 times in the chest, abdomen and back on June 30th, 1991. She was found in front of her home in the 2100 block of Valley Street in Muskegon.
Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson made the announcement Tuesday that charges would be filed, and warrants were sworn in Wednesday by the Muskegon Police Department who handled the investigation, along with a cold case team organized by Hilson.
Anderson is currently serving two life sentences in the Michigan Department of Corrections for armed robbery and double homicide in Ottawa County in 2008. He is being charged with Covington’s murder as a habitual offender, third offense, for felony convictions that occurred prior to the 1991 murder.
Anderson is also being charged with perjury during an investigative subpoena. Both charges carry life sentences.
