“It’s just such a tremendous honor to be here today to have a building, a federal building, dedicated in my nephew’s name.”
Bryan Marks is Miguel Nava’s uncle. United States Marine Captain Miguel Justin Nava, who grew up in Comstock Park, was killed in a helicopter training exercise in California in February 2024. Soon after, Grand Rapids Congresswoman Hillary Scholten introduced a bill to rename the Comstock Park post office in his honor. The legislation was passed in January.

“That a small-town boy from Comstock Park could be recognized by people in Washington, D.C., our nation’s capital, to come together and honor him and dedicate a permanent place in history in a federal building, it’s just amazing.”
A plaque honoring Captain Nava will be placed in the Comstock Park post office, which Marks says he hopes serves as inspiration to those who see it.

“I just hope that it inspires others to be like Miguel: to try to help other people and to try to convince people to be better than themselves and to be kind to others.”
Captain Nava left behind his wife, son, and parents.
