Ottawa County to host inaugural Veterans Job Fair

Ottawa County Veterans Services

Pew Research Center estimates the federal government employed more than 700,000 veterans last year. Reductions to the federal government’s workforce this year are impacting that workforce

“Earlier this month, we declared July as Ottawa County Veterans Month.”

Caleb Worple is Community Outreach Specialist with Ottawa County Veterans Services. He says 25 organizations are scheduled to take part in the county’s first-ever job fair for veterans.

“Veterans come with a strong work ethic, a good attitude, and reliability. It’s going to be a good opportunity for veterans to showcase their skills, especially when that comes to different industries such as aviation, contracting, so on and so forth.”

Despite the Veterans Benefits Administration projected 6% workforce reduction in the Fiscal Year 2026 federal budget, Worple says so far, his office is not seeing those cuts affecting Ottawa County veterans.

“I don’t know that we’ve seen a lot of those cuts here on the local level. I think that’s more of a federal issue at this point. In Ottawa County, things look strong in terms of economic opportunities.”

The event coincides with the recent groundbreaking of Ottawa County’s dedicated veterans’ facility, which is expected to open this fall.

The job fair takes place on Monday, July 28th at the Fillmore Administration Building from 10 AM to 2 PM.
