United States Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed Timothy VerHey as the next Interim U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan. Bondi appointed VerHey on Monday, who was sworn in on the same day.
VerHey takes over for former U.S. Attorney Mark Totten, who served as Attorney for the Western District of Michigan from May 2022 to January 2025. Totten resigned his position when President Trump took office.
VerHey will serve as the chief federal law enforcement officer representing the United States in federal and civil trials in West Michigan. The Western District of Michigan makes up 1.6 million people and covers the western half of the lower peninsula and all of the upper peninsula.
VeryHey has been a federal prosecutor in Grand Rapids for nearly 35 years and will lead a staff of 70 prosecutors, civil litigators and support staff.
In a statement, VeryHey thanked Attorney General Bondi for the opportunity and stated, “The people of West Michigan expect that I and the members of this office will apply federal law in a fair and effective manner, and that is exactly what we will do.”
