Michigan’s top federal prosecutors resigned this week ahead of President-elect Trump taking office Monday

Mark Totten, the United States Attorney for the Western District of Michigan has announced his departure.

It is common for U.S. attorneys to leave their posts after a change in White House administration.

President Biden nominated Totten in November of 2021; he began service in May of 2022.

In a statement, Totten praised his team and noted successes in protecting the public, mentioning gun violence, child exploitation, public corruption, consumer fraud, and opioids.

“It’s our work to dismantle the pipelines that bring illegal drugs into our communities which over the last few years have killed more people than ever.”

Totten’s counterpart, Dawn Ison, who serves the Eastern District of Michigan, is also resigning, effective Sunday.
