Grand Rapids ranked #1 on LinkedIn list of 'Cities on the Rise'

City of Grand Rapids

The list cites manufacturing, healthcare and professional services as the city’s top hiring industries

LinkedIn’s inaugural ‘Cities on the Rise’ list ranks 25 of the fastest-growing metro areas with fewer than 2.5 million LinkedIn members.

“Well, I think this is great recognition for the amazing business community we have here in Grand Rapids.”

Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives for the Grand Rapids Chamber Andy Johnston says recognition like this brings more talent to the region.

“One of the things that makes Grand Rapids such a competitive and growing midsize city is the diversity of industry we have here and the employment opportunity.”

The list cites manufacturing, healthcare and professional services as the city’s top hiring industries, with top employers being Corewell Health, Grand Valley State University and Meijer.

LinkedIn stated, “A growing tech scene and booming insurance industry are helping Grand Rapids redefine its industrial identity while drawing a wave of young professionals thanks to its growing job market, bustling downtown and proximity to Lake Michigan.”

“It’s incumbent upon us as a community to make sure we have the assets here that they’re going to make sure they want to call Grand Rapids home.”

Rounding out the top three are Boise, Idaho at #2 and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania at #3.
