Community members in Muskegon County now have an accessible and convenient way to monitor their blood pressure at home.
This stems from a collaboration between the American Heart Association and the Muskegon Area District Library. A news release says the district libraries are now able to offer free blood pressure kits as part of its “Libraries with Heart” program.
This initiative allows patrons to borrow a blood pressure monitor much like they would a book, making it easier to prioritize their health.
Each blood pressure kit includes a monitor, step-by-step guidance from the American Heart Association on how to measure blood pressure accurately, along with an explanation of blood pressure readings.
Five of the locations also let patrons check their blood pressure at a “Blood pressure hub” right on the spot.
Sarah Poole, Community Impact Director, American Heart Association, West Michigan. Says, “Keeping track of your blood pressure is an important step in staying healthy, but not everyone has access to a monitor at home.” adding “The ‘Libraries with Heart’ program makes it easier for people to check their blood pressure and learn what their numbers mean.”
