Autocam Medical, which manufactures medical devices, plans to construct a 100,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Warsaw, Indiana.
“We basically have doubled in size since COVID, and so this is a natural expansion of our facilities.”
John Kennedy is CEO of Autocam, which currently employs ten people at the Medtronic building in Warsaw. Medtronic is an Autocam customer.
“The thought initially when we went to Warsaw was Medtronic had announced that they were closing this facility and so there’s 350 engineers and machinists at the time that we could bring into our business.”
Kennedy says companies in Warsaw have been downsizing, leading to a more robust market for eligible workers, and one reason they’re expanding into Indiana rather than West Michigan.
“Indiana’s a little more friendly to business than Michigan and certainly I’ve seen a lot of stuff with our… I’ll say current administration, and what’s happened in the last couple years are not making Michigan the most hospitable place to grow and expand your business.”
Construction of the new Warsaw facility is expected to begin this year, with completion anticipated within 12 to 18 months.
