Muskegon resident Maggie Doyle supports the city commission’s decision to fly the Pride flag at city hall.
“It’s an act of welcome it’s a symbol to LGBTQ+ residents you belong here.”
Muskegon will fly the Pride flag at city hall and Hackley Park and host a Pride festival on June 7th to support LGBTQ+ people, a community Mayor Ken Johnson says he is a part of.
“Muskegon is unique. The mayor Vice mayor and the city manager are all members of the LGBTQI community and I’m proud of that.”
The Pride Flag will fly in the city all month, except the week of June 16th, when it will be replaced by the Juneteenth flag, commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. A history Commissioner Willie German says some want to forget.
“The history has been taken out of the textbooks and now banned by this administration in office.”
The Trump administration is eliminating DEI policies and programs and punishing institutions that resist. Commissioner Jay Kilgo is a resister.
“Diversity, equity, and inclusion are not bad words.”
“I’m proud of this commission not shying away from DEI.”
