“Welcome Dr. Steven Triezenberg as our next interim president.” [applause]
The college says Dr. Steven Triezenberg has over 30 years of experience in higher education, most recently as president of the Van Andel Institute Graduate School in Grand Rapids. Board Chair Brandy Lovelady Mitchell says he is well qualified for the interim president position.
“Wanting to make sure we called someone in to create the right conditions for the person who comes next.”
Last month President Charles Lepper resigned after the board placed him on administrative leave to, in their words, “review his contract.” Vice president of finance Lisa Freiburger was appointed interim president.
“To step in and keep the boat afloat.”
But Freiburger was already scheduled to retire this month. Trustee Micah Perkins thinks Triezenberg is a good choice to replace her as interim.
“Boy, does Dr. T fit the bill. Someone who is well versed in education and also does not want the job for very long.”
Trustee Sheryl Siegel says Triezenberg has one quality in particular she values in a president.
“It’s character that matters most and he is a man of great character.”
