Records of some international students attending Michigan universities are being restored after being removed earlier this month by the Trump administration

A Grand Valley State University spokesperson states, “We are aware of 1 of our 4 students whose visas were affected by earlier actions having their status reinstated in the system.”

More than 70 students at Michigan colleges and universities abruptly lost their legal right to live and study in the U.S. when their visas were revoked by the federal government earlier this month.

Amid multiple lawsuits around the country, a government lawyer for the Trump administration Friday read a statement saying immigration officials are manually restoring records to a federal tracking data base for more than a thousand international students nationwide while they work on new systems to terminate visas.

Michigan State University confirms its international students have also had their records restored but there is confusion about their visa status.

As having a record removed from the database is different than having a visa revoked, legal questions remain, and university staff are monitoring changes.
