The Reach Higher Celebration focused on prioritizing empowered education and amplifying the university’s impact on the region’s future.
GVSU President Philomena Mantella shared her view on accessibility and the future of higher education amid current political pressures.
“We’ve been through enormous changes in this country over the centuries. Education will persist. It is the great equalizer. I’m not going to pretend that it is perfect as it is. I think we have to be open to change and evolution, but we also can’t be distracted and lose two, three, four years because we’re paralyzed by the amount of change. So, what I really urge people is to continue to remember our focus, keep moving forward, stay aligned with our values and adjust as we always have.”
The event also included a series of 10-minute conversations updating how GVSU is eliminating obstacles in education, innovating technology across all learning disciplines, and shaping initiatives that intertwine education, health and technology.
