GRPD docuseries goes behind-the-scenes of police operations

The Grand Rapids Police Department is the focus of a new television series after crews were given what they call “no-limit access.” The first episode debuted Tuesday night

“This is the most access that a documentary film crew has ever had to a police department before.”

“All Access PD: Grand Rapids” is an eight-episode docuseries premiering on the Investigative Discovery network.

In the trailer, Police Chief Eric Winstrom talks about why he wanted transparency in showing day-to-day operations.

“When I moved here two years ago from Chicago, trust in this police department was at an all-time low. I knew I had to break down the walls.”

The series shows a film crew spending 100 days shooting in Grand Rapids, saying they were given complete access to everything in the GRPD with more than a dozen cameras set up at headquarters, access to bodycams, in-car cameras, and photographers riding along with officers on patrol.

The first episode, titled “Fight Club” follows the investigation into the murder of a 15-year-old boy, including interviews with his family.

“You are going to have to answer to God about why you killed my son.”

New episodes are released weekly on Investigation Discovery, then stream the next day on Max.
