“Our mayor of Grand Rapids mayor David LeGrand to the stage.”
After introduction by his predecessor Rosalynn Bliss Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand said the city, he now leads is expanding and attracting new residents.
“People want to live in our city of course there are things we can improve in Grand Rapids.”
The housing shortage in the city is a priority for the new mayor.
“We need housing as fast as possible at every price point.”
He also wants more community policing to keep pushing down the crime rate.
“Crime is down in Grand Rapids and our first responders are constantly working to strengthen ties to the community."
And the new mayor wants an emphasis on walkable, bikeable neighborhoods, and at least one more dog park. He says there are only two in the city.
“Dogs are ambassadors, and they bring people together if your dog messes with somebody else’s dog you got to go talk to the owner right.
LaGrand says cities like Grand Rapids are critical to the future of our democracy.
“Democracy means dealing with people cities are where those things have to keep happening because its where the people are. Tomorrow always begins with ideas sparked in cities.”
