“We appreciate hearing from constituents of Michigan’s 4th District. If you would like to leave a comment for Congressman Huizenga, please visit Huizenga.house.gov, and click ‘Submit Your Comment’ under the services tab.”
This is the automated greeting Congressman Bill Huizenga’s constituents receive when calling the Zeeland Republican’s Holland, Portage, and Washington, D.C. offices.
In a statement, Huizenga’s communications director said, “Recently, we instituted a phone tree to increase efficiency. A variety of factors contributed to this decision, including a significant increase in overall call volume as well as threats against both our staff and the Congressman.”
Some constituents are frustrated by Huizenga’s decision to only hold telephone town hall meetings rather than in-person, saying he’s avoiding DOGE budget cuts and government layoffs backlash.
The statement from Huizenga’s office goes on to say, “Since the inauguration, the Congressman has responded to more than 29,000 questions and comments from constituents, while reaching out to nearly 100,000 constituents during two telephone town halls and sending more than 900,000 email updates to residents across Southwest Michigan.”
The Ottawa County Democratic Party is holding an in-person town hall on Thursday, March 20th. Representative Huizenga has been invited.
