It’s aimed at cities that protect undocumented immigrants from federal officials.

Some Democrats in the legislature say the proposed change is a “xenophobic attack” on diverse communities

The resolution requires any Michigan municipality that receives certain grant funding from the legislature to document that its policies and ordinances align with federal immigration law.

It’s aimed at cities that protect undocumented immigrants from federal officials.

The move comes as President Trump has launched a wide-spread effort to deport undocumented immigrants.

Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall introduced the resolution.

He says he wants to send a message to cities like Kalamazoo, where officials were weighing whether to adopt a sanctuary policy for immigrants, before ultimately deciding against it.

Some Democrats in the legislature say the proposed change is a “xenophobic attack” on diverse communities.

The House is expected to vote on it this week.
