Catholic leaders respond to Trump administration order regarding arrests at places of worship

Michigan Catholic Conference

The Michigan Catholic Conference calls for policies that keep undocumented families "safe and united"

The letter in response to the Trump administration rescinding rules stopping immigration authorities from entering churches

The letter was signed by leaders at seven Michigan Catholic dioceses. It says the churches empathize with those who are anxious about mass deportations, and calls for lawmakers to work on pathways to citizenship and border security.

Reverend Robert D Gruss is the Bishop of Saginaw. He says the church will support migrants.

"As Catholics and as disciples of Jesus Christ, and so he's commanded us to, you know, give a drink to the thirsty and welcome the stranger and in the end, and Matthew 25, you know, whatever you do to the least of my brothers you did for me, so."

The conference clarified on its website that it did not support open borders and says unnecessary migration should be avoided.
