“We have to have someone to do the city manager things after he is gone.”
And Muskegon Heights mayor Bonnie McGlothin says if they don’t find either an interim or permanent city manager before current interim Melvin Burns leaves at the end of the month, she will have to take on some manager responsibilities she is not qualified to handle
“I don’t mind doing it but some of that technical stuff is beyond my reach.”
Melvin Burns has been interim city manager for almost two years. During that time council could not agree on a candidate to fill the position permanently, which is why councilman Andre Williams says they are now in this predicament
“It’s been going on since last year, you are going to blame me im not blaming no one oh okay I’m not blaming anyone but this has been going on too long we need to get a city manager.”
The mayor says a few people have applied, and Councilwoman Kimberly Sims says ideally a candidate will have city manager qualifications
“I would ideally like to see the interim come in in the next two weeks to be able to work alongside Mr. Burns prior to his transition. Someone in place who can catch all the moving parts and has a skill set to do such.”
