One of the early favorites to soon enter the race to become Michigan’s next governor says she is currently spending her time talking with voters.
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has indicated she’s interested in running to replace fellow Democrat, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who must step-down in two years because of term limits.
Benson says held more that a dozen community conversations in towns scattered across the state since the recent election ended.
BENSON: “And I’m really enjoying these conversations...I’m learning so much about where people are and what they want from their next governor. And as those conversations conclude...then I’ll be making an announcement about my next steps.”
Benson says many people remain concerned about housing issues and the high price of goods and services.
She adds that she remains a proud Democrat.
A potential rival gubernatorial candidate, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, is a long-time Democrat but recently announced he would run for governor as an independent.
