Duggan lists the removal of blighted homes, improvements to city services, and Detroit’s population increase as accomplishments as mayor

Two years out from the race to replace Gretchen Whitmer as governor… Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has announced his candidacy.

Duggan, who was elected to three terms as a Democrat, is running as an independent.

In a video announcing his candidacy, Duggan says he’ll be traveling the state.

“This campaign will start by finding out what you think by going to every corner of Michigan. I'm looking forward to sitting in living rooms from Detroit to Alpena to Hillsdale to Ishpeming.”

Duggan’s term as mayor ends at the close of 2025. The statewide midterm election is in 2026.
