The Thanksgiving Day event is free and open to anyone seeking food, shelter and fellowship

Mel Trotter Ministries and community partners are again hosting a Thanksgiving Day meal for more than 2,000 people, stressing that families in West Michigan continue to struggle with food insecurity and a shortage of affordable housing.

The Thanksgiving Day event is free and open to anyone seeking food, shelter and fellowship.

It’s held at Devos Place in Grand Rapids from 11 -1 on Thursday.

Mel Trotter staff, community partners and more than 500 volunteers will join forces to prepare the annual meal, serving 180 turkeys, 3,000 dinner rolls and 60 gallons of gravy.

A team from the Gilmore Collection of restaurants will cook the turkeys,

Mel Trotter will also have free coats for those needing one this winter.

The Rapid will provide free shuttle service to-and-from DeVos Place for those needing transportation.
