Michigan Congresswomen co-sponsor low-income water affordability legislation

Debbie Dingell and Rashida Tlaib are co-sponsoring new legislation that could create the country’s first permanent federal low-income water affordability program

They are calling it the H2O Up Act. It’s an expansion of an existing program the pair established in 2021…but has run out of money.

Congresswoman Dingell says access to water is a basic human right.

“People need water for just their own bodies and for being able to live in sanitary conditions. And there is just too many families that are struggling to cover the cost of their water bills.”

The legislation would appropriate 20 billion dollars annually for the next 10 years.

The bill was introduced last week and is awaiting to be referred to committee.
