Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance held a rally in Holland Tuesday afternoon

The junior Senator from Ohio spoke to hundreds at HES Equipment, a construction equipment supplier in Holland. Vance spent much of his speech taking shots at his democratic rivals, Vice-President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Vance also spoke about Michigan’s history of automotive ingenuity and how his running mate, former president Donald Trump, and Harris differ on continuing that tradition.

“The Michigan automobile manufacturing industry is suffering because we’ve got a leadership who looks out for Chinese-made EVs but doesn’t look out for Michigan auto workers. And I make you a promise: when Donald J. Trump is back in the White House, Michigan auto workers will have a friend and a fighter in the Oval Office.”

Vance also spoke about inflation, the economy, and border security, claiming that hospital wait times and public school education are suffering due to illegal immigrants.

“We’ve got 85,000 children in Michigan public schools who are the children of illegal aliens, and of course we know that a lot of those students don’t even speak English. Now what happens when to the quality of a Michigan school when you have thousands upon thousands of children who don’t even speak English? We know what that means. The guidance counselors and everybody else have to distract resources from the children of American citizens to focus on the children of people who shouldn’t be here.”

Holland was one of three stops Vance made in Michigan on Tuesday.
